Arellano University rode Catherine Domasig's overall game to pull off a 25-14, 21-25, 25-16, 25-21 win against Jose Rizal University in the NCAA Season 101 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
The Lady Chiefs halted their two-game slump, thanks in large part to their veteran setter Domasig, who poured in 12 points on top of 26 excellent sets.
Domasig's playmaking leadership also allowed opposite hitter Crisanta Servidad to finish with a team-high 22 points laced with 10 digs, while Fhaye Mangubat and Heart Villaflores chipped in 13 and 11 markers each as they improved to 3-4 in Group B.
Czarina Ramos paced the Lady Bombers with 15 points and 11 receptions, but her efforts went for naught as they slipped to 1-7 in Group A.
Domasig starred in their Set 4 breakaway act, unleashing a pair of one-two attacks that saw the Lady Chiefs shatter a 13-all deadlock and unleash an 8-3 run for a much-needed 21-16 cushion.
The Lady Bombers staged a mini rally courtesy of Ramos, but Villaflores' kill from the left wing hit the hands of JRU blockers and sent Arellano to a 23-19 advantage.
Moming Padillon's attack error and Ramos' kill from the back allowed JRU to trim the deficit to two, 23-21, but Padillon made up for it in the next play and went for a down-the-line hammer to clinch the match point, 24-21.
Padillon and Mangubat then joined forces to deny Gayle Batara in the middle and put the exclamation in the four-set romp.
Before this victory, Arellano was reeling from back-to-back losses at the hands of defending champion Benilde and league-leading Perpetual.
