De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde pulled off straight-set victories in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the NCAA Season 101 volleyball tournament on Friday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
The Lady Blazers bounced back against Emilio Aguinaldo College, winning 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 to return to the win column after last Saturday’s loss to San Beda University.
Clydel Catarig led the Lady Blazers with 13 points, while Zam Nolasco added 12. Camila Bartolome contributed 10 points, and the Lleses sisters made their presence felt on both ends of the floor: Shahanna had 10 points, 16 digs, and six receptions, while Shekaina added eight points and nine digs. With the win, Benilde improved to 6-2 in Group A.
Chenae Basarte also stood out with 20 excellent sets out of the team’s 23.
For the Lady Generals, Angel Joy Perez and Ashley Toriado scored 11 points each, but EAC remained winless in nine games.
Earlier, the Blazers dominated the Generals in the men’s division, winning 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.
Rocky Roy Motol and Reymark Betco were key contributors for the Taft-based squad, each scoring 16 points, with Motol also recording six digs and seven receptions. Meanwhile, Ruther Abor led EAC with 13 points in the straight-set loss.
Benilde improved to 5-3 in Group A, while EAC dropped to 6-3 in Group B.
Both teams will next face Colegio de San Juan de Letran, with Benilde capping its crossover round against the Knights on Sunday. EAC, in the same group as Letran, will meet the Knights on Friday as it returns to its original group.
