Colegio de San Juan de Letran took down Mapua University, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21, to stay unbeaten in the NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
Gia Maquilang delivered an explosive performance for the Lady Knights, finishing with 22 points built on 20 attacks, along with 11 receptions and seven digs, as the Intramuros-based squad improved to 8-0 in Group B.
Vanessa Sarie added 18 points, while Judiel Nitura chipped in 10 for Letran. Setter Nat Estreller orchestrated the offense with 26 of the team’s 27 excellent sets.
The victory spoiled a 22-point outing by Freighanne Garcia for the Lady Cardinals, who slipped to 3-5 in Group A.
In the men’s division, Letran stretched its winning streak to three games after turning back Mapua, 25-16, 24-26, 30-28, 25-22.
Vince Himzon paced the Knights with 21 points, while Bembem Bautista added 17 points, along with eight receptions and seven digs. Dave Lardizabal contributed 19 points, and Luke Cordero tallied 17 receptions and six digs as Letran improved to 5-3 in Group B.
Arjay Ramos led Mapua with 21 points, while Olsen Jamisola and Barbie San Andres chipped in 16 and 15 points, respectively, in the loss as the Cardinals dropped to 3-5 in Group A.
Letran returns to action Sunday against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde to close out its crossover phase. Mapua, meanwhile, wraps up the second phase of the classification round Tuesday against Arellano University.
