Juna May Gonzales and Kath Santos carried San Sebastian College-Recoletos to a crucial 25-18, 27-25, 20-25, 25-17 win over Arellano University in NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball on Saturday at San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
Gonzales took charge with 22 points anchored by 19 attacks, two aces, and one block while Santos poured in 21 markers laced with 10 digs as the Lady Stags improved to 3-6 in Group A.
The Lady Chiefs, meanwhile, slipped to 3-5 in Group B.
The Lady Stags, who dropped five of their first six games, cracked an 8-all deadlock in Set 4 thanks to a huge 8-2 rampage capped by Gonzales’ kill from the left side as they surged to a 16-10 cushion.
It became a 22-15 cushion for the wards of head coach Roger Gorayeb when Santos caught the fingertip of Crisanta Servidad while a Princess Ramos ace sent them to an eight-point advantage, 23-15.
Tina Marasigan hit one from the right side to bring San Sebastian to match point before Santos put the game away for good with a down-the-line hammer.
The loss spoiled a pair of 19-point outings from rookie Servidad and veteran Moming Padillon, who also grabbed five receptions.
