Lyceum of the Philippines University turned to Jun Edang and Charles Segui to complete a Set 3 turnaround en route to a 25-18, 25-23, 26-24 win against Jose Rizal University in NCAA Season 101 men's volleyball on Saturday.
Edang and Segui's heroics saw the Pirates crawl out from a 15-8 hole in the third frame and seal the straight-set victory, improving their Group B standing to 2-7. The Heavy Bombers, meanwhile, absorbed their seventh loss in a row for a 1-8 record.
Edang ended up leading all scorers with his 22-point output while Segui dazzled from all ends with 11 markers, 14 receptions, and four digs to help LPU bounce back from a previous loss to league-leading Perpetual.
Jeffrince Macalacad sparked JRU’s early surge in Set 3, hammering down a kill that pushed the Heavy Bombers to a commanding 15–8 lead. The momentum continued to swing their way as JRU stretched the gap to 21-16 after David Talento’s quick attack sailed wide.
But the Heavy Bombers faded down the stretch.
LPU unleashed an 8-1 blast with Edang erupting for five points during the run to overturn the deficit and seize a 24–22 advantage.
JRU would still be able to force a deuce at 24-all, but Edang soared for another kill before Mark Lanorio and Khen Martinez joined forces to provide the game-winning block as they completed the come-from-behind Set 3 win.
Paolo Barrientos starred for JRU in the loss after finishing with 17 points while Macalacad churned out 15 markers.
