Jerry Yee returned to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Sunday after the champion coach underwent a medical procedure for health reasons.
According to Yee, he had a viral heart infection which made him out from the sidelines for four games for the Lady Blazers, and also made him miss out his coaching duties for ZUS Coffee in the PVL.
“Dinrain ‘yung tubig sa lungs ko because of a virus, nagkaroon ng accumulation ng water sa lungs ko so naapektuhan [ang] organs ko,” Yee told GMA News Online after the Lady Blazers’ loss against Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
(The water in my lungs was drained. Because of a virus, there was an accumulation of water in my lungs so it affected my organs.)
Yee was seen walking with a crutch during the match but was able to stand on his own without it. He explained that a protein leak caused swelling, which eventually affected his lower limbs.
Beyond that, however, Yee clarified that he is doing fine.
“Since back then, wala naman [na] ako naramdaman,” he said, adding that he is also set to return to his club ZUS Coffee in the PVL.
“Ganun talaga, you have to recover, laban lang.”
(Since then, I haven't felt other symptoms. It's like that, you have to recover, just keep fighting.)
Unfortunately, the Lady Blazers absorbed a five-set loss against Letran in his return.
“Kapos eh, ganun talaga. Hindi pa mature ‘yung team ko,” he said.
(We just fell short, that's they way it goes. My team isn't mature yet.)
Benilde currently holds a 6-3 record in the women’s volleyball tournament.
