San Beda University flipped the switch in Set 5 to complete a 25-13, 24-26, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA Season 101 men’s volleyball on Sunday.
The Red Spikers came back from three points down early in the final frame before Axel Van Book provided the finishing blow to help San Beda claim back-to-back wins.
The win allowed San Beda to force a two-way traffic at the top of Group B, tying the Generals with a 7-4 card.
Book erupted for 31 points, including five of San Beda’s last 11 points, and contributed 17 receptions while middle blockers Anrie Bakil and Alener Munsing chipped in 14 and 13 markers each.
San Beda was once in a 4-7 hole in Set 5, but Book sparked the comeback after converting two attacks that fueled a massive 7-1 rampage and gave the Red Spikers an 11-8 cushion.
Book then completed a combination play before shattering the EAC wall to give the Mendiola crew the match point, 14-11. Ralph Cabalsa ultimately sealed the deal after emphatically returning an overpass from EAC.
The loss spoiled a huge game from Jan Ruther Abor, who exploded for 35 points anchored by 32 attacks and four blocks.
