Colegio de San Juan de Letran moved a win away from sweeping the NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball preliminary round after outlasting Arellano University, 25-14, 24-26, 26-24, 20-25, 15-10, on Friday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
After being pushed to a fifth set, the Lady Knights grabbed an 11-9 lead before pulling away to secure the win, thanks to a late surge from Nicen Colendra and Vanessa Sarie as errors also hampered Arellano’s fightback.
Sarie erupted for 27 points built on 24 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while also tallying 16 digs and 13 receptions. Yen Martin and Judiel Nitura added 19 and 18 points, respectively, as Letran closed out the match that lasted nearly two and a half hours.
Sam Tiratira and Kheisha Abitria scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, in the losing effort for Arellano.
With the win, Letran improved to 12-0, while Arellano slipped to 5-7 in Pool B.
