NCAA: Arellano Lady Chiefs survive four-set clash against EAC ahead of playoffs

Arellano University escaped Emilio Aguinaldo College in its Set 4 rampage, completing a 25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23 win in NCAA Season 101 women's volleyball on Wednesday at the San Andres Sports Complex.

The Lady Chiefs blew a six-point lead in the fourth frame, but recovered just in time to turn back the Lady Generals and climb to 6-7 in Group B ahead of the playoff round.

The loss sank EAC to a winless 0-13 card at the end of the preliminaries as the Lady Generals must now battle Lyceum of the Philippines University in the knockout play-in stage to remain in contention.

Moming Padillon rescued Arellano in the endgame to finish with 12 points while Cassey Florida stepped up big time with 13 markers and 14 digs. Sam Tiratira and Crisanta Servidad, who both provided the finishing kills, each tallied 10 points.

Padillon’s down-the-line hammer gave Arellano a 22–16 cushion in Set 4, but the Lady Generals, eager to cap their group-stage run with a breakthrough win, mounted a late fightback to stay within striking distance.

EAC launched a blazing 5–0 run capped by an Ashley Toriado block on Padillon as the Lady Generals pulled to within a point, 22–21. Padillon then countered with a kill to create a two-point cushion, but EAC forced a 23-all deadlock with another rejection from her.

Arellano, though, pulled away thanks to an attack from the left wing by Servidad and a single block from Tiratira on Toriado.

The loss means EAC is still searching for its first victory this season despite an 18-point outing from Angel Perez, who also had 18 receptions. Alex Razonable and Cara Dayanan poured in 17 and 12 markers, respectively, in the losing effort.
