Emilio Aguinaldo College finally broke through, sweeping Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-23, 25-16, 26-24, in the NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball play-in tournament on Friday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
The win spared EAC from a winless campaign and snapped a 17-game skid dating back to its loss to LPU in the second round of Season 100.
The Lady Generals trailed 19-18 in the third set before unleashing a 5-2 run to move within reach, 23-20. A service error by Joy Perez briefly gave LPU life, while Stacey Lopez and an EAC attack error helped the Lady Pirates save two match points.
Lopez later tied the set, but Marinel Ramos delivered back-to-back points to seal the victory for the Lady Generals.
Perez finished with 13 points and 14 receptions for EAC, while Alex Razonable added 13 points, seven digs, and seven receptions. Cara Dayanan chipped in 12 points.
Ashley Muchillas led LPU with 10 points, while Hiromi Osada and Jona Dolorito had nine and eight, respectively, as the Lady Pirates wrapped up their campaign.
EAC will face Group A leader and twice-to-beat University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in the quarterfinals.
