NCAA: Mapua stuns San Beda in do-or-die, books semis date with Arellano

Mapua University ousted twice-to-beat San Beda University, 25-14, 22-25, 26-24, 25-21, in their do-or-die NCAA quarterfinals match on Friday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

After a slow start, the Cardinals regrouped and replicated their performance last Wednesday, when they defeated the Red Spikers, to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Arjay Ramos and Barbie San Andres once again led the charge for Mapua. Ramos delivered 31 points built on 27 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, along with 17 receptions and nine digs. San Andres added 23 points from 17 attacks, four blocks, and two aces, along with 21 receptions.

Axel Van Book contributed 18 points, while Annie Bakil and Ralph Cabalsa chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Red Spikers bowed out of the tournament.

Mapua will face Arellano University in the best-of-three men’s semifinals starting Tuesday. In the other bracket, Colegio de San Juan de Letran will take on De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
