De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde's sophomore standout Reymark Betco set the record straight about his surname as he continues to make a name in NCAA men's volleyball.
The high-flying opposite hitter revealed that his real family name is Bitco, but he had to use “Betco” in official records, as it was the name reflected on his birth certificate.
This is also the reason why “Betco” appears on the back of his jersey during games, while he shared that he uses “Bitco” on his social media accounts.
"Kaya naging Betco, ‘yun kasi [nakalagay] sa PSA [Certificate] ko eh, pero ang lagi kong ginagamit ay Bitco. N'ung pinanganak ako, baka nagkamali," Betco said.
Betco, however, said he does not mind which surname sticks with fans, as long as he continues to do his job for the Blazing Spikers and contribute to the team’s NCAA campaign, adding that he has no plans of changing it to his real surname.
Betco dazzled for Benilde in its finals series against Mapua University, erupting for 33 points in Game 2, which allowed the Taft crew to force a do-or-die match. He then dropped 17 markers in the decider as Benilde completed the reverse sweep against the Cardinals.
Betco was named Finals MVP after helping the Blazing Spikers end a nine-year title drought.
"'Yan na po gagamitin ko. Mahirap ibahin. Okay lang 'yun."
