NCAA: Jerry Yee admits Benilde’s struggles as title run ends

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde fell one win short of completing a five-peat, as Colegio de San Juan de Letran captured the NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball title.

The campaign proved to be one of the most challenging for the Lady Blazers, who had dominated the league over the past four years.

Head coach Jerry Yee acknowledged that the team dealt with its share of struggles throughout the season.

"Kami, ourselves, we know 'yung inconsistencies namin. So, it may not look like it pero ang dami naming struggles eh," Yee said.

“Mentally, maturity, ang dami-dami naming challenges this year. So, we're not trying to make excuses. Ganun talaga eh.”

Yee himself missed some games due to his medical leave.

Despite the setbacks, Yee emphasized that the team had already given its all.

“[May] panghihinayang? Hindi eh. Napiga na namin. Napiga na. Ang dami naming weaknesses, limiations, tinry na punuin. Probably, internal ‘yun, pero ang dami naming butas na kailangang takpan. So we had to move people, play people in different positions.”

“Sagad na. ‘Yan na ‘yun. Marami na silang ipinanalo for us.”

Yee also noted the overall improvement of his players, even as they ultimately fell short against a stronger opponent.

“Pero I guess ‘yung mga bata nag-improve din. Physically, ‘yung game nag-improve din, bumilis, lumakas din. Talagang kinapos, talagang better ‘yung kalaban.”

With several veterans set to move on and key players like Aya Densing expected to return, Yee remains optimistic about the team’s future.

“Happy kami sa magiging lineup and sa incoming new players namin.”
