Rampaging tidal surges spawned by super Typhoon Rolly rammed the seawall, sending violent splashes of seawater into some houses in a coastal barangay of Tagkawayan town in Quezon province on Sunday.

Seawater flooded some houses in Barangays Aldavoc and Magsaysay. Also, a number of houses were damaged after being lashed by tidal surges.

Rolly's  strong winds knocked trees down and its torrential rains caused flooding on Lopez-Buenavista and Lopez-Catanauan Roads  that were rendered impassable to vehicles.

No casualties were reported in the town as of Sunday morning.

According to Ian Cruz’ report on “24 Oras Weekend,” similar storm surges occurred in Calauag.

Barangay Sabang Dos officials made rounds to ensure that residents evacuated the area.

Around 200 families living in coastal areas were brought to the Sabang Elementary School.

Authorities said 16,000 families had so far been evacuated.

Super Typhoon Rolly has made four landfalls so far: Bato, Catanduanes at 4:50 a.m.; in Tiwi, Albay at 7:20 a.m.; in San Narciso, Quezon at noon; and in Lobo, Batangas at 5:30 p.m.

It weakened into a typhoon before noon on Sunday, but Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 was maintained over 20 areas. —with Julia Mari Ornedo/LBG/BM, GMA News
