Asian Games: Three Pinoy boxers settle for bronze medals

After Charly Suarez barged into the gold medal round to start the Philippine boxing campaign on a high note, three other fighters settled for the bronze medal after falling in the semifinals of the Asian Games on Thursday.
 
Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga succumbed to Korean fighter Jonghun Shin via unanimous decision in the men's light flyweight division.
 
After Barriga, Mario Fernandez also went down against Chinese rival Jiawi Zhang via unanimous decision in the men's bantamweight semifinals.
 
For the last boxing match of the day for the Filipinos, Wilfredo Lopez lost to Jordan's Odai Riyad Adel Alhindawi via split decision in the semifinals of the men's middleweight.
 
Earlier in the day, Suarez won against Jordan's Obada Mohammad Mustafa Alkasbeh to enter the gold medal round in the men's lightweight.
 
Suarez will clash with Mongolia's Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu on Friday to add to Team Philippines' lone gold from BMX rider Daniel Caluag. — JST, GMA News
