'Germany for beginners' exhibit at UST

The Goethe-Institut Philippinen in cooperation with the University of Santo Tomas presents “Deutschland fur Anfaenger" or “Germany for Beginners". The opening ceremony was held on September 26 at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Main Building lobby. Present during the Opening Ceremony were Goethe-Institut Philippinen Director Mr. Herr Richard Kunzel, Goethe-Institut Philippinen German Language Consultant Mr. Salk Schleicher, UST’s Assistant to the Rector for Student Affairs Dr. Evelyn Songco, UST’s Office of Public Affairs Director Assoc. Prof. Giovanna Fontanilla and Exhibition Curator Mr. Claro Ramirez. “Deutschland fur Anfaenger" is an exhibition promoting German culture and language at the UST campus from September 26 to October 14, 2011. Aimed primarily at high school and college students, “Deutschland fur Anfaenger" is a promising fun-filled collaborative effort between the 400-year-old UST and 50-year-old Goethe-Institut Philippinen. The exhibit has as one of its activities billed “Graffiti 101", a workshop on Graffiti and its significance in the history of Germany and especially of Berlin. Aside from the workshop, there are other activities for the participants that, besides providing spice to the exhibition, will also offer guests a chance to win a free round trip to Germany. “Deutschland fur Anfaenger" travels from one country to another around the world, promoting the German language and culture through an array of interactive components that has for its highlight the 26 giant letters of the alphabet constructed as learning stations. Each of the letters corresponds to a particular aspect of German life, and bears a theme that addresses current global issues. “Germany for Beginners" was first held in Asia in October 2009 in Beijing, and has since travelled to Wuhan, Guanzhou, Taipei, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This year it is slated to be staged in Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia and the Philippines. (Press Release)
