Buteyko method treats chronic diseases

The chaotic preparations, endless parties, and binge eating or drinking during the holidays may have caused more than just splitting headaches. Some people have experienced severe stress, and even depression. For many, however, these may actually be telltale signs of chronic diseases or mental and stress disorders that are largely unchecked.

In 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 388 million people will succumb to chronic diseases as against infectious ones over the next 10 years. Heart ailments, diabetes, cancer, and emphysema are the four main chronic diseases which account for 60 percent of deaths worldwide. WHO said these people would also most likely suffer from mental illnesses.

As chronic diseases become Asia’s leading causes of deaths, Filipinos meanwhile are turning to a scientific treatment that is inexpensive, effective and lasting to help reverse these diseases—the Buteyko breathing reconditioning program.

Introduced in the country by Jac Vidgen, an Australian senior practitioner with 17 years of experience in teaching the method, Buteyko has helped thousands of Filipinos find immediate relief from the so-called lifestyle diseases: asthma, allergies (rhinitis and excess mucous), sleep apnea, anxiety disorders, hay fever, coughing, and stress.

He has also managed serious cases of emphysema and COPD, migraine, hypertension, chronic bronchitis, digestive disorders, and immune or hormone function. Some individuals have used the method to control weight, treat skin disorders, and enhance their sports performance or meditative practices such as yoga.

“A major factor in all these diseases is a dysfunctional breathing pattern known as Chronic Hyperventilation Syndrome (CHVS) and they cannot be reversed unless the CHVS or chronic over-breathing is reversed. Drugs, diets and supplements may temporarily suppress symptoms, but they will ultimately fail as the underlying breathing issue is never addressed,” Vidgen explains.

Buteyko Method is a safe, fast, effective, drug-free, self-generating way of optimizing oxygenation to every cell and taking the body from a state of defense and merely existing to truly living by perfecting what you do most—breathing.
Buteyko breathing techniques help balance the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the body. When people over-breathe or hyperventilate, they excessively lose carbon dioxide, which then causes reduced supply of oxygen from blood to cells, plus vessel constriction and disturbance to pH and metabolism, that leads to asthma and even diabetes or cancer if people are genetically predisposed to these illnesses.

The Buteyko Method was developed over 50 years ago by Russian respiratory specialist Dr. Konstantin Buteyko. It has since found acceptance all over the world as scientific trials in Canada, Australia, Scotland and New Zealand show it can treat hyperventilation and other breathing-related conditions while strengthening one’s immune function, reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing.
