Arnold Clavio honored at the 2012 UST AB Gantimpala Awards

Multi-awarded broadcast journalist and GMA News pillar Arnold Clavio adds yet another feather to his cap - this time in the field of advocacy - after being named as one of the 18 awardees at the 2nd UST AB Gantimpala Awards held Wednesday, March 28, at Club Filipino in Greenhills.

Clavio, who graduated in 1987 with an AB Journalism degree, was cited for his advocacy work through his Igan Foundation. Established ten years ago, the foundation was set to diligently provide assistance to children afflicted with juvenile diabetes type 1.

Thankful for his alma mater's recognition, Clavio shares how important this award is. "In all my decisions, I am always guided by what Mother Teresa says 'We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.' Author Albert Pine inspires me to continue with my commitment in Igan ng Pilipinas Foundation. He says 'what we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal,'" Clavio says. Through his Igan Foundation, Clavio believes he is able to extend a more profound part of himself by helping others who are most in need.

Some of the other awardees include Nestor Cuartero for Print Journalism (AB Journalism '74) and Luis "Chito" dF de la Vega (AB Communication Arts '84) for Media.

AB G.A.N.T.I.M.P.A.L.A. (Government Service, Apostolate/Advocacy, Nation-Building, Teaching/Philosophy, Industry/Management,
Media/Entertainment, Public Relations/ Journalism, Advertising/
Marketing, Law/Justice, Arts/Literature) was organized by the University of Santo Tomas Arts and Letters Alumni Association, in coordination with the Faculty of Arts and Letters and the UST Office for Alumni Relations, to honor outstanding graduates from the various departments of the college.
