PNoy awards 2012 Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations

Representatives of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) awardees make the ten sign to cap of this year’s 10th TAYO Awards.
(“The Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations proves that the youth can be heroes for taking the straight path. These organizations show that no matter the age, gender, or economic standing, we can do good for the community and country as long as we work together.”)

The 2012 TAYO awardees are Angat Kabataan, CBA Kalipunan and Junior Marketing Executives, Cebuano Youth Ambassadors, Dire Husi Initiatives, I CAN Make a Difference, Inc., La Salle Debate Society, Monte Verde 4-H Club, One Million Lights Philippines, Ramon Magsaysay Technological University-Electrical Engineering Society, and University of Luzon Students in Free Enterprise. Each organization received a trophy especially crafted by Toym de Leon Imao, a renowned Filipino sculptor, and a Ph 50,000 cash grant from Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc., co-presenter of TAYO Awards.

“Poverty, joblessness, disease, lack of quality education are serious problems confronting the nation yet rather than rant and rave, bellyache, finger point or curse, these 10 organizations set out to help solve them and have triumphed one project at a time. With their dedication and passion they confront the nation’s many ills and in doing so have helped us all in bringing the nation closer to ending them,” said Senator Kiko Pangilinan in his welcome speech.

The Cebuano Youth Ambassadors was recognized as the “Coke Barkada Awardee” for having unified a number of youth organizations in their community in helping those in need through their BasuraSkwela project. They received a trophy and additional cash for being deemed as the group which best demonstrated the Coke Barkada spirit of collective volunteerism, or “working together for the community and living the value of positive action for positive change” while having fun.

“It is but natural for Coca-Cola to partner with the only awards body that recognizes the outstanding contributions of youth organizations in the Philippines,” said Coca-Cola Philippines President and General Manager Guillermo Aponte. “Imagine the ripples of positive change that over a thousand youth organizations have sparked in their local communities, schools and workplace since the very first search for exemplary youth organizations in 2002.”

The TAYO Awards 2012 is presented by TAYO Awards Foundation together with Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. in partnership with the National Youth Commission and the Office of Senator Kiko Pangilinan. “The first ‘Coke Barkada Award’ in 2005 started TAYO’s partnership with Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines. By 2006, the TAYO awards was solely co-presented by Coca-Cola, and the annual search has since become a key project for us. These young adults who have battled against seemingly overwhelming social, economic, and environmental problems to be there for others are truly inspirations for the country,” said Coca-Cola Foundation President Cecile Alcantara.

During the post-ceremonies lunch gathering that Coca-Cola held for this year’s TAYO awardees, Coca-Cola Philippines Public Affairs and Communications Director Adel Tamano said, “This year’s TAYO awardees are special because you are not only the TAYO Foundation’s 10th batch of winners, you are also the batch that represents the 100th year of Coca-Cola in the Philippines. We extend our thanks and support to you, our young leaders. For through your actions, you shall inherit a brighter and better Philippines.”
