Eid'l Fitr international art festival at The Podium Mall on August 2

"Sulu Sea Swim" by Abdulmari Imao
Eid’l Fitr marks the end of Ramadan for Muslims the world over. The end of fasting implies a clean start, and it’s a chance for Muslims to celebrate their faith together. Muslims can look at the world with a clearer perspective.
In this light, Galerie Joaquin celebrates Eid’l Fitr with the entire Muslim community through a special exhibition at The Podium Mall from August 2 to 9, with an exhibit opening on August 2, Friday, during Iftar, at 6 o’clock in the evening.
The exhibit features works that use Islamic motifs and themes, from the likes of National Artist Abdulmari Imao, Toym Imao, Rameer Tawasil, Kublai Millan, Dominic Rubio, Jovan Benito, Aljo Pingol, and Jamila Tamano.
Abdulmari Imao takes motifs from the traditions of the Islamic community. With bold colorizations, figures such as sarimanoks, gongs, and sails are abstracted into beautiful geometric shapes and flat compositions reminiscent of long-established weaving and textile techniques.
Rameer Tawasil takes human figurations and abstracts them through a unique swirl of dynamic colors. Islamic patterns are seen in the background in a wonderful melding of styles. Master painter Dominic Rubio explores idyllic scenes of the Islamic community during colonial times, and their interactions with different people.

This exhibition is organized by Galerie Joaquin in partnership with Magbassa Kita foundation, Inc, The Department of Tourism, National Commission on Muslin Filipinos (NCMF), Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID) and The Podium Mall.
This exhibition is not only a fantastic way to join the Muslim community in observing one of the most important days in the calendar, but it’s also a great way to experience how Islamic culture has influenced some of the most important artistic practices in the country.
The exhibition will be at the 2nd Floor Atrium of The Podium Mall, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. For more information, please contact Galerie Joaquin through their landline at (02) 723-9418 or email at info@galeriejoaquin.com. Please visit Galerie Joaquin’s website.
