Curved silhouettes, whimsical waves, and a mix of masculinity and femininity are the bold designs that depict the art of movement in this year’s Preview Emerging Fashion Talent Awards (PEFTA). PEFTA is Preview’s way of providing a platform for emerging talents to maximize their potential and cultivate their skills and passion into thriving enterprises.
Ten budding design talents are named awardees of the PEFTA 2013, whose six-piece collections are on display at SM Aura until September 24.
Five students from our partner schools Slim’s, School of Fashion and the Arts, and Fashion Institute of the Philippines are included in the roster. With the aerodynamics of sports cars as her inspiration, Pristine de Guzman brings air movement into her collection through geometric design elements of the garments. Geoffrey Zordilla, however, played with various tints and shades to portray the flow of sea waves into his dresses.
A life in transit is what Bea Samson exhibits as she captured images of city lights and moving vehicles, and used these as a print for her handiwork. Kevin del Poso, on the other hand, merges the static and the movement of photography in the dresses he created. It is an oriental-themed collection for Tony Evan as he makes use of textures and shapes reminiscent of dragons, lanterns and salmon roe.
Five other up-and-coming designers also join this year’s group of emerging talents. Alexandra Cheng combines stillness and movement with a hint of androgyny in her collection. Artful designs, with curve lines and attractive prints mark the fashion trademark of Marian Zara Madayag. Bien Santiago, the designer of Yuminum Bikinis, introduced the movement of wind into her swimwear.
Apart from the apparel, accessories take center stage for several designers. Adante Leyesa’s creations feature Philippine wildlife, while Neeresh, Sureen and Reshnee Bhagwandas, the sisters behind DAS Shoes, focused on the butterfly designs.
In addition, Preview ties up with another fashion giant for the annual PEFTA event. With SM Aura opening its doors to the public last May, the Preview and SM Aura teams handpicked five PEFTA 2013 designers, namely Geoffrey Zordilla, Pristine de Guzman, Bien Santiago, Marian Zara Madayag and Alexa Cheng, to execute pieces that represent SM Aura characteristics—Luminous, Curvilinear, Environmental, Global—as well as the SM Aura woman, respectively.
