Three directors, one stage: 3SUM
This October, the Ateneo Fine Arts Program presents the final showcase of three student directors under the tutelage of Dr. Ricardo Abad. The event will be called 3SUM, as the three plays that will be staged will be the sum of two semesters’ worth of directing classes by three directors.
The directors are Jay Caluag, Dominique La Victoria and Arion Sanchez.
The three one-act plays that will be staged are provocative, compelling and will be directed to appropriate contemporary aesthetics. The show will run three plays per night, a triple bill production.
Jay Caluag will be directing Shadows in the Dark by Jay Crisostomo IV. It is a story about pain and memory’s past. Of mistakes and second chances. Of the presence of darkness and the absence of light.
Dominique La Victoria will be directing Liwanag sa Karimlan by Roberto Jose de Guzman. The play revolves around two impoverished teenagers thrust into adulthood. Dreams are shattered and perceptions are renewed as they slowly give in to darkness.
Arion Sanchez will be directing Layeta Bucoy’s Doc Ressureccion: Gamutin ang Bayan. The play is about dirty politics running rampant in a backwards small town as one doctor’s dream of change clashes with the electoral hopes of his cousin.
3SUM brings together three stories that delve into the darkness that resides in each person. Whether that darkness will be brought out by a memory, a city or a dream.
This event seeks to promote the Ateneo de Manila University’s Fine Arts Program. A celebration of the theater arts, this production will showcase homegrown talents from Fine Arts students from different organization and disciplines.
The production will run October 3 and 4, 7:00 PM and October 5, 2pm at the Ateneo Fine Arts Theater, 3/F Gonzaga Bldg., Ateneo de Manila University. For inquiries and ticket reservations, please contact the production manager Juerjen Domingo (09272747380) - ADMU press release
