GMA Network’s Felipe Gozon receives Ulirang Ama Award

GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon was chosen as one of the recipients of the 21st Ulirang Ama Awards held at the Manila Hotel on Father’s Day, June 15, 2014.

 

Organized by the National Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Foundation Inc., headed by its President, Mr. Wilfredo M. Talag, this honor recognizes outstanding Filipino fathers who have shown success in their professional lives while fulfilling their role as head of their respective families.

 

Former Supreme Court Justice Angelina Sandoval Gutierrez was the Chairperson of the Awards Committee.

 

“Ang ama is an important pillar of the family kaya they have to serve as the example to their children,” Gozon expressed. “Ang pinakamagaling na paraan ng pagtuturo is to serve as an example.”

 

On behalf of the honorees, Gozon delivered remarks focusing on the responsibilities that come with fatherhood and the role that a father plays in the formation of values and traditions in the family.

 

 “I have come to realize that if there is one job that challenges every parent even beyond his lifetime, it is being a father,” he said. “We fathers pass on more than our names and our genes and even our properties to our children. More importantly, we pass on values and family traditions that one day, consciously or unconsciously, will be passed on to future generations.”

 

He also spoke of the importance of strengthening family ties.  “We travel. We laugh. We cry. We study. We plan. Together...” he said. “Yes, we also argue and fight. But of course, we love each other through our many successes and trials and failures and that is what strengthens our bond.”

 

He ended with a wish for all fathers, “That we all leave a better world for our children. And when their time comes, they will also do the same.”

 

Among other Ulirang Ama awardees that morning were former GMA Network President Menardo R. Jimenez, House Speaker Sonny Belmonte, DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya, UP President Alfredo Pascual, and Court of Appeals Justices Elihu A. Ybañez and Francisco P. Acosta. – GMA Network
