WeatherPhilippines Foundation has partnered with telecommunications company Globe Telecom Inc. to increase the efficiency of its weather stations, and to complement local government’s efforts in disaster-preparedness.
Last August 7, 2014, Globe sealed its gold sponsorship for WeatherPhilippines by committing to donate 400 Globe sim cards, and its mobile data services, amounting to P1 million per annum.
These sim cards, to be installed in the weather stations’ data loggers, will transmit real-time weather data from weather stations to the servers of WeatherPhilippines’ partner, MeteoGroup. Processed weather information from MeteoGroup serverscan be accessed by the Filipino public, for free, at weather.com.ph.
During the contract-signing, WeatherPhilippines General Manager Celso Caballero III said, “We want to achieve this goal with Globe, not just because it is an industry leader in telecommunications, but because it also has a strong commitment to enriching lives through ease and relevance. This is the passion that WeatherPhilippines wants to emulate in delivering critical, timely, and accurate weather information to its stakeholders.”
WeatherPhilippines is also looking forward to establishing future partnerships with more institutions who support its disaster-preparedness advocacy.
