Musicians Agianst HB 4218 Alliance will hold an open forum for all interested musicians on January 31, 2015, Saturday, 4 p.m. at Tiendesitas, Pasig City. Billed as “The 1st Independent Musicians’ Open Forum on Rights and Welfare,” the gathering is organized to help musicians navigate the issues surrounding the proposed House Bill 4218 and how it impacts the Filipino musician, determine its salient points, and create a united stand.
HB 4218 was authored by Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat. It was proposed in the lower house on March 18, 2014 and has the full support of Filscap, AMP and OPM. While the bill seeks to promote, protect and develop the Philippine Music Industry, no consultation was ever conducted with the Independent Music community.
The Forum is organized jointly byHeart of Music, Indie Pinoy, Pinoyhiphoppaz Organization, Malayang Ugnayan sa Industriya ng mga Komposer ng Awit (MUSIKA), Musicians For Peace, ConcernedArtist of the Philippines (CAP), Songwriters Philippines, Bandstand Pilipinas, SiningBugkos, Alternatribu Indie Artists Community, FILCOMDEC, and League of authors of public interest songs (LAPIS).
Alongside the forum is a dental mission for musicians and their families which will start at 2pm. Free dental check ups, denture repair, tooth extractions, tooth brush, and medicine awaits registered musicians and their families. This is activity is a follow-up to the successful Medical mission conducted by Heart of Music last year.
