Atty. Alan Paguia's remains to be cremated on Sunday

Atty. Alan F. Paguia, the lawyer who questioned the constitutionality of the assumption to the presidency of then Vice President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in January 2001, died Thursday afternoon while undergoing dialysis and will be cremated on Sunday, the Quezon City High School Alumni Association said on its Facebook page.

 

Paguia was the QCHSAAI president from 2001-2003. He graduated from Quezon City High School in 1971 and from the Kamuning Elementary School in 1967.

 

He was 60 years old on his passing. Paguia's remains lie in state at the St. Peter's funeral chapel along Araneta Avenue in Quezon City.

 

Paguia was legal counsel of former President Joseph Estrada when he challenged the constitutional basis of Arroyo's rise to the presidency.

In November 2003, the Supreme Court suspended Paguia from the practice of law. The suspension was lifted in October 2011.

 

The QCHSAAI credits Paguia for "pursuing with commitment the goals of the association with his feeding program for high school students and free legal aid for the alumni and community" while he was its president.

 

Paguia was also a legal aid volunteer of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Kamuning, Quezon City.  — ELR, GMA News
