Jose Rizal University unveils its historical marker


Heralding its year-long Centennial Celebration, José Rizal University lighted up the night sky last February 8, 2019. One Hundred gold and blue lights illuminated the façade of the historic Alumni Building along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.

José Rizal University was founded by Don Vicente Fabella, the first Filipino Certified Public Accountant. He established the Far Eastern College School of Accounts, Commerce and Finance at Arlegui Street in 1919.

After transferring to Hidalgo Street in 1921, the school changed its name to José Rizal College in 1922.

The 7th President of the Republic of the Philippines, Ramon Magsaysay, graduated from José Rizal College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce in 1932.

In 1941, José Rizal College closed as a sign of protest against the Japanese Occupation. After World War II, JRC re-opened in 1946.

The school transferred to Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City in 1949.

The Commission on Higher Education granted José Rizal College, University Status in 2000.

José Rizal University is ISO certified and holds the highest level of accreditations from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).

Throughout its 100 years of existence, JRU has prided itself in offering quality and affordable education for all.

On February 15, 2019, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) unveils the Historical Marker at José Rizal University’s Alumni Building along Shaw Boulevard. The NHCP granted the installation of the Historical Marker at the site affirming José Rizal University’s valuable and significant contribution to Philippine history.
