TIP, DOST collaborate to identify MSME needs towards digital transformation

Since Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have become a formidable force in the
local manufacturing industry, boosting their capacity to transition from mechanized to automated
and smart manufacturing is crucial.

With the goal to help evaluate and assess MSME readiness towards Industry 4.0 and to identify
the needed interventions towards digital transformation, the Technological Institute of the
Philippines (TIP) initiated Project ADAPT NCR.

Funded by the DOST-NCR, the project aims to identify the key points an enterprise needs to transition its business operations from a highly traditional, manual set-up to a more digitized set-up.

A locally contextualized Readiness and Needs Assessment Tool will also be developed in
collaboration with the representatives from the DOST NCR, other government agencies,
industry experts, and MSMEs.

The tool will be used to objectively assess operational inefficiencies, technological gaps, and workforce preparedness.

Once an enterprise is properly evaluated and classified, the results can pinpoint the needed
technologies that are cost-effective, scalable, and sustainable to effectively capacitate
MSMEs towards digital transformation.

Knowing the other needed interventions of MSMEs will also provide strategic guidance on how MSMEs can succeed in increasing product quality and employee productivity. Project ADAPT NCR is in line with DOST-NCR’s flagship program, the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP), a government initiative that hopes to encourage and assist MSMEs to innovate their operations and boost their productivity.
