New Rihanna Facebook video survey scam

A new survey scam is making the rounds of social networking site Facebook, posing as a video of singer Robyn Rihanna Fenty, a.k.a. Rihanna.

Computer security firm Sophos said the scam tries tempt prospective victims with a message claiming the video would make one lose respect for the singer.

"OMG - I just hate RIHANNA after watching this video ... you will lost your all respect for RIHANNA after watching this," Sophos quoted the message as saying.

The message also contains a link that can supposedly take the user to the video.

"However, if you're careless enough to click on the link you will find yourself lured into a survey scam that attempts to earn affiliate cash for fraudsters," Sophos said.

"It's people's natural curiousity and desire to read (and view!) a sleazy celebrity story that gives scams like this life.," it added.

A Facebook user who clicks on the link will be asked to share the link with his or her online Facebook friends, thus spreading it virally.

The user will then be duped into taking an online survey where the scammers earn commission for every survey completed.

"Sadly, some people seem to be all too prepared to pass a link to their social network of mates without knowing what the point is," Sophos said.

Sophos advised those victimized by the scam to remove the message from their news feeds, and delete any messages they may have inadvertently shared with friends.

It said users can also report the link as spam. "Hopefully if enough people do it, Facebook will begin to stop the scam from spreading," it said. — TJD, GMA News
