Hacktivist group Anonymous on Friday claimed responsibility for sporadic service failures experienced by social networking giant Facebook on Thursday evening (Friday in Manila).
But tech site PC World said Facebook has since “resolved” the issues on the site, and apologized to its users over any inconvenience they experienced.
“Some users briefly experienced issues loading the site. The issues have since been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience,” it quoted Facebook as saying in an emailed statement.
It cited outage-tracking site downforeveryoneorjustme.com reported Facebook down early Friday morning but service returned.
Also, it said just-ping.com reported “packets were being lost Friday morning at Facebook locations in Stockholm, Shanghai, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Lisbon; checkpoints were unavailable in San Francisco and Moscow; and an unknown host message was generated in Beijing.”
On the other hand, the YourAnonNews Twitter account suggested Anonymous may be behind the Facebook disruptions.
“Oh yeah… RIP Facebook a new sound of tango down bitches,” the tweet said.
In past months, Anonymous had threatened to bring down Facebook. In August 2011, it threatened to “kill Facebook” on November 5 but eventually did not push through with it. — TJD, GMA News
