Americans who cast their votes in the recently concluded elections there this week uploaded some 250,000 photos to photo sharing service Instagram on Election Night Tuesday.
In a blog post, Instagram noted the number of Instagram photos uploaded each second even surged to 2.1 times the normal rate after Barack Obama II was projected to win.
"People from around the United States tagged more than 100,000 photos with #IVoted, and 150,000 photos with #election2012, allowing folks to share their own—and tune into others’—election night experience in real-time," it said.
The photo sharing service said this meant the "intimacy and immediacy of the Instagram experience has fostered new and meaningful connections across the globe."
Such photos give glimpses of "a family member across town, or a favorite candidate barnstorming across the nation," it added.
"We love watching people share photos in new and interesting ways, and we’re excited about the potential Instagram has to bring us all closer together," it said.
A separate article on tech site CNET said the Americans who uploaded their photos to Instagram are clearly "not shy about sharing their dedication to civic duty visually," adding this was "a reflection of Instagram's growing popularity among citizens." — TJD, GMA News
