Updated Facebook app allows real-world gift-giving

Facebook members on the go and who own Apple iPhones can now give real-world gifts to their friends, with the updated Facebook app for the iOS platform.

 

A report on tech site Mashable said iPhone-toting members of the social networking giant can give real-world gifts including wine sock monkeys and beer-making kits.

 

The report said users can view Facebook friends with upcoming birthdays or calendar events, and tap on the gift icon beside the friend's name.

 

"Gifts will appear wrapped on your friend's Timeline until he or she decides to open them," it added.

 

On the other hand, the app also allows them to let their friends choose their gifts from a selection.

 

A user can also send a virtual card to the Facebook friend, the Mashable report added.

 

Gifts on the Web

 

Mashable noted Facebook launched "Gifts on the web" last September after acquiring Karma earlier this year.

 

The feature lets Facebook users give real-world gifts to their Facebook friends without having to know the friend’s physical address.

 

"Gifts range from cake pops to Uber rides, and can be sent along their way in less than a minute –- perfect for last-minute gift giving," Mashable said.

The updated Facebook app allows users to upload multiple photos to Facebook at once.
