iPhone users can now send in their scoops directly to GMA News. Following the launch of the YouScoop app for Android phones in November, GMA News has now released the app’s iOS version for iPhones.
Like the Android version, the YouScoop for iOS app lets users easily share photos and videos of newsworthy events with GMA News.
“This is the age of super-empowered citizens,” says Howie Severino, GMA Network’s Vice President for Multimedia Journalism. “We want the YouScoop apps to be their first option for capturing and sending news.”
YouScoop for iOS, developed by GMA New Media, is now available for download on the Apple App Store. It is optimized for the iPhone 5 and requires iOS 6.0 or later.
On first use, the YouScoop for iOS app asks the user to register or login in to his or her YouScoop account. It then allows users to launch their smartphone’s camera within the app for them to take photos or videos. It also lets users select a photo or a video from the phone’s gallery.
The latest verified scoops submitted by YouScoopers may also be viewed on both the YouScoop for Android and YouScoop for iOS apps.
Prior to the creation of the mobile apps, YouScoopers were also able to send photos, videos, and messages to GMA News by uploading their materials on the YouScoop website (www.youscoop.tv) or through text messaging, MMS, email, and the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook.
YouScoop, GMA News’ citizen journalism arm, gives ordinary citizens a chance to help report the news. It receives and verifies user-generated content that gets featured on the YouScoop page. Newsworthy scoops also get published on GMA News Online or aired on any one of the GMA News and Public Affairs programs. — TJD, GMA News
