Facebook users unable to access their accounts, get error messages
For several hours Monday evening, many Facebook users had problems accessing their accounts in the social media network while some were unable to post status updates.
Some users of the social networking giant took to Twitter to vent their frustration.
"There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes," was the error message many users encountered when trying to post updates.
But the problem appeared resolved before 10 p.m. Monday (PHL time) with users able to post updates again.
Before that, some users had problems posting photos and videos, and even comments as well.
The Philippine Red Cross expressed on Twitter its problem posting status updates to its Facebook account.
The site DownRightNow.com which monitors the status of popular web services, indicated Facebook may have had a "service disruption" as of 9:43 p.m. Manila time.
Tech site Mashable said, "Facebook status update issues are not uncommon, but this one seems global — we've tested it from several IPs and received the same message."
Facebook users got this advisory: "If you're seeing this message when you log in, it usually means that we're making an improvement to the database that your account is stored on. While we're doing this, you won't be able to access your account. We're sorry for the inconvenience."
Facebook's "Desktop Help answer" also said it does undertake "site maintenance on all accounts at the same time, so it's possible that your friends will be able to access the site while your account is unavailable."
It told users who still receive the error message "after 24 hours, to let us know." — ELR, GMA News
