With a tweet of just two words, Nokia's New Zealand office may have landed in hot water with its followers on Twitter on Wednesday (Manila time).

The Finnish phone maker apologized for the tweet—which it has unsurprisingly deleted—and said it is now investigating the source.

A report on The Next Web posted a screenshot of the offensive tweet.

The Next Web added there has been no formal explanation of the cause from Nokia, though there are some likely suspects that come to mind.

"We can think of a few explanations for it, such as hacking, a disgruntled employee, an account mixup, or a practical joke gone awry, but whatever it is, Nokia isn’t going to be winning the Internets today. We’ve reached out to the company to see if we can find out what happened," it said.

Nokia, once the top maker of mobile phones, has lost significant ground to Apple's iPhone and Korea-based Samsung, many of whose phones run Google's Android operating system.

It has since partnered with Microsoft to build smartphones running the software giant's Windows Phone 8 operating system. — TJD, GMA News
