A US-based Filipino artist is seeking to bring Baybayin, the long-lost Philippine writing system, into modern Filipinos' consciousness by building a web translator for it.
Christian Cabuay took his "Ancient Philippine script web translator" to crowdsourced funding site Kickstarter.com in hopes of getting support for it.
"In 2009, I created the first version of the translator freely available on my website Baybayin.com. I used the base code to then launch my mobile application in 2001 at BaybayinApp.com. Almost five years later, it's time for an update to the Web App. This will be an ambitious update featuring different fonts and the ability to download a high resolution file," Cabuay said on the project's Kickstarter page.

He said the funding will help offset costs for:
- Outsource graphic editing
- Font license
- Web hosting fees
Cabuay said he aims to launch the project on March 1 this year. — TJD, GMA News
