Instagram users warned vs. new scam

Users of Instagram, Facebook's popular photo-sharing service, were warned against a new scam promising giveaways in exchange for following and sharing their accounts.

Spain-based Panda Security said it has noted some brands promoting their Instagram accounts with contests and giveaways that turned out to be a scam.

"The alleged prize are gift brochures to spend on these clothes shops. To be able to win them you just have to follow that account and share it in your Instagram account," it said.

Even the Spanish National Police has warned the public about this, Panda Security noted.

But it also noted there is also the chance other versions of the scam could be waiting for victims anywhere in the world.

"Despite having seen this scam in Spain, we wanted you all to know, because we can find examples of these scams all over the world, so please be cautious, there is not such thing as a free lunch!" it said.
