Criminology scholar sells graham balls to fund siblings' tuition

Even with his varsity scholarship in taekwondo, John Ventura still chose to use his time off working for his criminology degree to sell graham balls.

The venture, however, was not just for his allowance, but for the education of his siblings.
 
"Huwag ninyong sisihin iyong magulang ninyo kung hindi kayo nakakapag-aral kasi may sarili naman kayong paa. Ang magulang para sandalan, hindi para asahan," Ventura told GMA's "24 Oras".
 
The top student from Emilio Aguinaldo College in Cavite said he wasn't ashamed of his entrepreneurial hobby.
 
"Bakit naman po ako mahihiya kung pag-aaral ko naman yung nakasalalay po? Hanggang kaya kong mag-aral, kayanin ko," Ventura said.
 
Ventura, who makes the delectable treats with his family, hopes to one day enter the Philippine National Police to serve as a member of the Special Action Force.
 
"Gusto ko pong maging PNP-Special Action Force po dahil sa 44 na namatay sa Mamasapano, mas na-motivate po ako na mas mag-serve ako sa bansang Pilipinas," he said.
