Instead of the usual profile picture, Facebook users will soon be able to use a profile video as their avatar for the social networking site.

The company announced this along with several other updates for mobile users.

According to an official announcement, the profile video is a "short, looping video clip" that will play for visitors viewing one's profile.

Facebook is also lining up temporary profile pictures, which users can set for a specific length of time before it reverts back to your old profile picture. The aim is to help users celebrate specific events like birthdays or vacations.

There’s also a new customizable space at the top of users’ profiles. Users can specify what they want to appear in this space — About fields (like work), Featured Photos (up to five), and a one-line Bio.

Other minor tweaks include centering and enlarging profile pictures in the display, and moving photos and friends to the top of the screen.

According to Facebook, they’ve started testing the new features in iPhone users in the UK and California before rolling them out to users worldwide. —Bea Montenegro/JST, GMA News
