A new advertisement in Taiwan featuring a heartwarming coming-out scene between father and son is making waves online.

The video from a coffee chain entitled “Acceptance” shows a young man using the coffee cup to tell his father “I like boys.”

Shaken and visibly upset by the confession, the father gets up, only to come back with his own cup of coffee and tell his son “I accept that you like boys.”

Since being posted on Facebook last Friday evening, the video has been shared almost 10,200 times and viewed over 3.2 million times, with more than 84,000 reactions from Facebook users.

While most comments on social media has been positive, some of Taiwan's religious fundamentalists finds the newest advertisement “polluting.”

According to a report by lifestyle blog Shanghaiist, secretary general of the Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family Chang Shou-yi has urged parents and consumers to boycott McDonald's.

In a statement to the press, Chang wrote that the Alliance "does not approve of the ideological stand behind the advertisement" and accused McDonald's of "openly promoting gay issues."

"Because McDonald's is frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behavior," the statement added. As such, the Alliance "opposes all advertising that miseducate children on sexual behavior," and "rebukes and boycotts all enterprises that are polluting the next generation."

Contrary to these statements, Taiwan's President-elect President-elect Tsai Ing-wen has been on the record as saying she supports marriage equality.

In a campaign video released before she led her party to a landslide victory in elections in January, she said, "In the face of love, everyone is equal. Let everyone have the freedom to love and to pursue their happiness." —Bianca Rose Dabu/JST, GMA News
