A video showing a policeman getting hit after being used as a live target purportedly by his superior officer in a firing range went viral over the weekend.
A certain Jun Ledesma, who uploaded the video on Facebook just recently, said the incident happened last May 19 in Victorias City in Negros Occidental.
The video has been shared more than 4,900 times on Facebook as of posting time.
The video belied an earlier account of the incident as reported by Sun Star Bacolod which said that PO1 Marvin Gustilo was fixing a target board when the gun used by Supt. Frederick Mead accidentally went off.
Ledesma, in his post, recalled that PO1 Gustilo was purportedly ordered by Mead to place a balloon between his legs with his arms outstretched.
Moments later, the policeman dropped to his knees after he was hit by a bullet in the leg. The bullet was allegedly fired by Mead using an M16 assault rifle.
"What Mead did was a "clear grave abuse of authority," Ledesma said, even as the Negros Occidental Provincial Police just dismissed it as an accident," the uploader said.
Mead was relieved as chief of the Victorias City Police Station effective May 22 and was reassigned to the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office in Bacolod City. — Virgil Lopez/APG, GMA News
