Netizens cheer ube cake appearance on ‘Steven Universe’

The purple wonder just went mainstream. Filipino ube lovers will see a familiar sight when they watch the season finale of "Steven Universe" on cable channel Cartoon Network.

In Season 4's final episode, Lars Barriga decides to prepare ube cake in response to Steven, his best friend, telling him to make something that "represents him."

Lars is seen preparing the ube cake with Steven and Sadie Miller, both of whom looking amazed at how the popular dessert was made.

Ube is the Tagalog word for purple yam, which is an ingredient used in all kinds of pastries and sweets.

Many Filipinos on social media welcomed the reference.
