Pinoy sets Asian record in Rubik's Cube with feet

Louie Jay Quibote of Saint Louis University successfully made it back to the records scene, narrowly missing the world record but setting a new Asian record after registering an average of 28.75 seconds in the Rubik's Cube with Feet Event of the Baguio City Open 2017, yesterday.

He needed a 27.30 solve on his last attempt to break the current world record average held by Polish Jakub Kipa but finished over by 1.80 seconds for a 29.10 seconds solve.

It was a majestic year for Quibote who also set the Asian Record for Rubik's Cube with Feet Single (27.59 seconds) last April in the same city. The single solve was later broken by Chinese Cuber Ruohan Qiu (24.53).

Quibote is a many time national record holder, both in single solve and average categories, before losing his titles to Edgar Elevado Jr. of Davao City during last month's Philippine Championship where he placed 2nd.

His current record sits 3rd in the world rankings closely behind World Number 2 Gabriel Pereira Campanha of Brazil (28.41) and World Number 1 Kipa (28.16).

Baguio City Open 2017 is a World Cube Association (WCA) sanctioned competition. Full results can be viewed via cubecomps or the WCA website. —JST, GMA News
