#BabaeAko campaign against Duterte among TIME's Most Influential on the internet

The women of #BabaeAko are some of the most influential people on the internet, according to American news magazine TIME.

The group made it to TIME's 2018 roundup of 25 celebrities, politicians, and social media stars that have a strong global impact on social media and a notable overall ability to drive news.

Ranked alongside the likes of Kanye West, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, and United States President Donald Trump, the #BabaeAko movement was  recognized for speaking out and rallying against "misogynistic" statements and actions made by President Rodrigo Duterte, members of his Cabinet, and members of Congress.

The movement burgeoned after Duterte said that the next Chief Justice should not be a woman, and women took to social media to protest using the hashtag #BabaeAko.

Since then, more women took to using the hashtag to protest sexism and misogyny.

On June 12, more than 1,000 women marched in Manila, carrying #BabaeAko banners, to tell the President that they have had enough of what they termed his repeated misogynistic words and deeds.

“With every misogynistic statement, he is saying ‘you can do the same because I get away with it,’” TIME quoted journalist and co-founder Inday Espina-Varona as saying.

Also making it to the 25 Most Influential People on the Internet are Korean pop act BTS, and vloggers Logan and Jake Paul.

Charlotte and Dave Willner, Naomi Watanabe, Daniel Baker and Joel Martinez (a.k.a. Desus and Mero), Sia Cooper, Roland Szabo, Eman al Nafjan, Scott Rogowsky, Ryan (a.k.a. Ryan ToysReview), Shaun King, Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler (a.k.a. @DietPrada), Matt Drudge, Kayla Itsines, 'Q', Busy Philipps, Tyler Blevins (a.k.a. Ninja), Lil Miquela, The Students of Parkland, Fla., Ariel Martin (a.k.a. Baby Ariel) are also part of the list. —Jessica Bartolome/JST, GMA News
