Netizen recreates 'Money Heist''s opening sequence with image of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas

A certain netizen put his creativity, know-how, and time to good use when he created a Pinoy version of "Money Heist"'s opening sequence complete with a cardboard image of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) building!

Kent Dave Catipay, a 19-year old studying at the Philippine Science High School in Central Visayas, reimagined the intro of the famous Spanish crime-drama series, also known as La Casa de Papel (The House of Paper), with the Philippines' very own bank and currency.

In Kent's now-viral video, he replaced the paper version of the Bank of Spain with a cardboard version of BSP. He also used Cecilia Krull's "My Life Goes On" — the same song in the original opening sequence, as the background music.

Catipay shared that he usually creates animation videos as a hobby and decided to make one for "Money Heist" after being addicted to the series.

"Pinanood ko 'yung first episode pa lang ay hindi na ako tumigil at tuloy-tuloy na sa panonood," Catipay tells GMA News Online. "Doon ko rin nalaman na na-addict na talaga ako sa show. Kahit study period ko ay inilalaan ko sa panonood nito."

The student shared that he allotted an entire week just to make the animation video.

It seems like a lot of the Philippines are "Money Heist" fans. In Iloilo, a fashion designer created personal protective equipment (PPE) inspired by "Money Heist".

Once the PPEs were handed out to the Western Visayas Medical Center to help fight against the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the healthcare workers posed for a photo wearing the iconic red hazmats and Dali masks.

The BSP itself seems to be a fan. It donated "Money Heist" inspired PPEs to frontliners at The Medical Center Manila, who gamely posed for a photo, too.

The connection between "Money Heist" and the Philippines is palpable. In season four of the famed series, it launched a new character named... Manila

Anyway, back to Kent's video: as of writing, it has earned over 380,000 views with 34,000 shares. Amazing! — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
