Waterspout forms near Laguna de Bay

Residents in Laguna and Rizal have reported seeing waterspout or “ipo-ipo” near Laguna de Bay.

In a clip shared by YouScooper Jed Arroyo, he said rain fell after he took the video of the waterspout at 5:30 p.m. today.

Gilbert Agno and Ivan Batle of Binangonan, Rizal, also shared their photos and videos of the phenomenon taken past 6 in the evening.

According to the National Geographic Society, a waterspout is a column of rotating, cloud-filled wind. A waterspout descends from a cumulus cloud to an ocean or a lake

PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday that water spouts form over bodies of water when there are severe thunderstorms.

This however is a rare phenomenon, he said.

When water spouts form, these usually come with strong winds, he added. —RC/KG, GMA News
