Viral corgi from Japan passes away

Aww man, we're sorry to be bearers of bad news but Gen the Corgi, the adorable good boi from Japan who has made the pandemic bearable thanks to his facial expressions, has passed away at the age of 5.

The terrible news was posted on his account, @GenTheCorgi early Monday morning, saying, "We are still so heartbroken but it is truly comforting to know that he is so loved. Please do not remember him with sadness, but with joy."

"He was always up for an adventure and could make us smile on the worst of days. His pure heart touched so many, from near and far," his owner Chikomaru presumably wrote.

"We would like to thank each of you for your love and support throughout the years," he added.

The caption accompanied a a photo of Gen with his back turned to the camera, a yellow leaf blowing by his side. "This is how we will always remember him. Fearless, free, and uninhibited," the caption read.

"He may not have been here for the longest time, but he lived the fullest life. We still have so many memories of him that we would love to share with you. Gen is forever," the note ended.

Gen, short for Gensaku, is a five-year-old Corgi from Japan that became a viral sensation for his hilarious expressions.

According to Vice, he's been on Instagram since 2015 but became a certified viral sensation last year, when the pandemic hit and people needed a good reason to smile. Gen became that good reason to smile for many.

On BoredPanda, Gen's hooman shared that the dog was born with hereditary chronic renal failure that cannot be cured.

"This disease causes Gen to experience polyuria (urinating more than usual), polydipsia (being thirsty all the time), anemia, malaise, and high blood pressure. To make things even worse, Gen was also born with other convulsive seizures prostatic hyperplasia."

As of last year, Gen has become a frequent clinic visitor, receiving dialysis treatment thrice a week, "gets 4 injections, and receives 6 types of medicine" on top of monthly blood and echo tests.

From the looks of Gen, nobody would know he was having a hard with with his health.

Though we lost one source of joy during this forsaken time, we're relieved to know that Gen won't experience any more pain. Thank you for the laughs, Gen! — LA, GMA News
