Fil-Am celebs Darren Criss, Shay Mitchell and more slam anti-Asian hate crimes in US

Several Filipino-American celebrities are slamming Asian hate on social media following the recent spa shootings in Atlanta wherein eight people - six of whom were Asian women - were killed.

Using the hashtag #StopAsianHate, "Pretty Little Liars" actress Shay Mitchell took to Instagram on March 18 to condemn the rise of Anti-Asian hate crimes in the US.

"Hate is hate is hate is hate. And it is wrong," Shay wrote in the caption.

"Time to start calling this what it is - a hate crime. Time to start calling the people who commit these hate crimes what they are - who the people are that do this - terrorists," she added.

Jon Jon Briones, who starred in Ryan Murphy's series "Ratched" and "American Horror Story," also condemned the violence against Asians in a short video clip.

"It’s hard to find words when you’re hurting. A lot of people are better at expressing their feelings. But I have to say something to make a plea for my community," he said in the caption.

"Take care of each other out there. Peace and love everyone," he added.

"Glee" actor Darren Criss, who is half-Filipino on his mother's side, encouraged his fellow Asian-Americans to continue overcoming prejudice and celebrating their heritage.

"Obviously, the news from this morning as well as the news that's been coming in over the several weeks of these heinous acts of violence against Asian people in the United States has been deeply upsetting," Criss said in a video clip he posted on Instagram.

"It's disappointing, it's frustrating, it's heartbreaking. It's all the things that I'm sure you feel as well. If you had half a brain, half a heart, half a conscience, you know how this feels. It doesn't matter who you are. Its awful," he added.

Asian musical artists like apl.de.ap have also joined the calls to end Anti-Asian hate crimes and racism in the US.

The Pinoy singer and rapper shared a campaign poster that shows an Asian woman saying "I am not your scapegoat."

"I don’t know what the shooter in Atlanta’s motives were today, but now seems as important a time as any to remind ourselves that we’re all in this together. I’m truly sorry for the families of those involved. #StopAsianHate," Apl said.

"High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens, who has a Filipina mother, and "The Masked Singer" judge Nicole Scherzinger have also posted #StopAsianHate messages in their IG stories.
