'Winking' puppy adopted by security guard in Pasig goes viral

A puppy who posed as if he was happily winking after he was adopted by a security guard in Pasig City recently went viral on social media.

According to Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras," Monday, the dog named Snowy is one of the Veterinary Services Department's "unwanted" animals, who are available for adoption.

The white fur baby was adopted by Geronimo Castro, who is now very happy with the new blessing.

"I was a former fur parent, but he died because of old age so I thought of taking care of a new one," he said in Filipino.

Although it would mean an additional mouth to feed, the new owner said it does not compare to the happiness that Snowy could bring to their family.

"At work, for example, there is someone who can take my fatigue away. I can see, even in my kids, that they like the puppy. They can play even if they can't go out."

As of writing, the Veterinary Services Department of Pasig City's Facebook post has now reached over 12,000 reactions and over 3,000 shares.

Since the department's "Adopt a Pet" program began, they have already found homes for 20 animals.

"Now that there is a pandemic, one of the people's focus is taking care of pets," Dr. Emma Sanchez from the Veterinary Services Department of Pasig City said.

To encourage more people to adopt, they also give out pet food and important tips. They also make sure that the pets are vaccinated before they go home with their new fur parents.

They still have 30 cats and dogs left in their pound. For interested fur parents, simply go to the Pasig Animal Pound and bring one valid government issued ID.

From there, you can now choose which new furry companion you would like to welcome to your family.
