Needy father reaping windfall of aid after returning fellow commuter’s cellphone

A father is receiving an outpouring of donations after he went viral for returning a fellow commuter’s cell phone.

As reported by Dano Tingcungco on “24 Oras” Friday, employee Patricia Tawat did not notice that she left her phone inside a jeepney when she hurriedly got off after missing her stop.

However, Christian Baluyot, the person who sat next to her, saw the gadget and decided to return it to its owner.

On Facebook, the 22-year-old grocery merchandiser shared a photo of the lost iPhone.

Christian soon got a call from Patricia, and they agreed to meet up so she could get her phone back.

Christian said it didn’t occur to him to keep the phone for himself.

Patricia later learned that Christian had two children, one of them with Down Syndrome.

To show her gratitude, she offered to buy him groceries, but Christian refused.

With his permission, she shared on Facebook their story, which soon went viral.

Through the post, many people reached out to Christian and offered him help.

Christian said someone commented that he could easily sell the phone for PHP10,000.

He is thankful that now, instead of spending stolen money, he has been receiving more blessings from the public. – RC, GMA News
